Video oddities in Windows 8.1
article #960, updated 3243 days ago

This is Windows 8.1 only, not 7, not 10. It is not known whether 8.0 is affected.

The current known operative case is Citrix-hosted applications, in a dual-monitor situation. If you see a malfunction, go to Control Panel, All Control Panel Items, Display. If “Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays” is unchecked, check it. It will require logoff/logon. And the problem will be fixed.

How to check NetBIOS status of a LAN and VPN
article #956, updated 3264 days ago

To learn what is going on NetBIOS-wise on your LAN, in Windows, do this:

NBTSTAT -r

This will get you something like the below. If you have WINS active — which is essential for NetBIOS and group policy over a VPN if you don’t do IPv6 — you will see the names resolved by name server as below. If not, if names are resolved by broadcast, you don’t have WINS, and NetBIOS will not work across VPN.

NetBIOS Names Resolution and Registration Statistics
    ----------------------------------------------------

    Resolved By Broadcast = 0
Resolved By Name Server = 1187

    Registered By Broadcast = 0
Registered By Name Server = 6

syncthing on CentOS 7 and multiple Fedora versions
article #948, updated 3295 days ago

After scouting a rather large number of potential sources, this one is working extremely well; download the .repo file for your OS and put it with the rest, and you’re in with yum or dnf!
